The hyperstar applet got "Slashdotted".
In the 24-hour period beginning Monday August 5 at 4:52 AM (US Eastern time), that single web page received 34,913 hits, with dogfeathers.com receiving a total of 44,594 page hits (5.95 Gbytes of traffic).
As far as I know, my web host was able to gracefully handle the flood of requests, which quickly subsided at the end of the 24-hour period.

Of the 34,913 visitors, only two sent me email. One was an offer to help me rewrite the applet using Microsoft's .NET (haha).
